Anti-decubitus mattresses
Anti-decubitus mattresses are used both for prevention and in treatment. A mattress for an individual is chosen according to the person’s weight and, when used in treatment, also according to the severity of the pressure sore.
For example, the air pressure in alternating mattresses is determined from the person’s weight although individuals with equal weight might not tolerate the same pressure on the tissue. When deciding which mattress to purchase, several more properties have to be considered, e.g. comfort, durability, flammability, static electricity, and cost-effectiveness.
